Minneapolis Regional Retiree Council
Subject: Retirees Take Action - End Rent Stress. Advance Rental Assistance. (HF3667/SF3883)
Labor Retirees and Allies,
The Minnesota Legislature is making final decisions on some important proposed legislation. This one needs you to take action!
Issue: Extending rental assistance to those in need:
"The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) created RentHelpMN for rental assistance using federal dollars. Having now exhausted funding for emergency rental assistance, applications for rent assistance by the RentHelpMN program have been halted since January 2022. Since applications were stopped, a 70% increase in the numbers of rental evictions has occurred.
"HF 3667 appropriates $330,000,000 of the state’s American Rescue Plan money (federal) to the MHFA to continue RentHelpMN emergency rental help to Minnesota families and individuals who really need it. Renters who apply through RentHelpMN will also be protected from eviction for nonpayment of rent.
